LOM BasicUcho Mount - Behind the Scenes

LOM BasicUcho Mount - Behind the scenes

Over the past few months, we've had the absolute pleasure of working with the founder of LOM, Jonas Gruska - on the design of our new Field Edition RAD Shockmounts.

The basicUcho series & Usi series have become widely popular for field recording and sound design. If you know anything about the LOM microphones, you will know how brilliant and incredibly popular they are - known to sell out within hours of releasing them.

When it came to designing a mount for the BasicUcho, there were several elements we needed to factor in:

1. Something small, lightweight and compact.

2. Something that will support the weight of additional wind protection.

3. Somewhere for the cable to channel through.

Although the original RAD Shockmount fit with the BasicUcho, for the type of recording LOM users are doing - It was too large for their needs. We started with a very basic mount with threads that would allow 2 RAD hoops to sit into. After further development, we realised that if users were to use just one hoop, it might not support the full weight. We then designed the 3-pocket base so it would be balanced with a single hoop.

And here we are! The basicUcho mount comes with:

  • 2 x RAD-2 Hoops (72D Standard Hardness)
  • 2 x 19/20m Clips
  • 1 x Clip holder

We want to thank Jonas for all his support. We couldn't be more excited to be apart of the LOM community! If you want to find out more about LOM, check out their Wesbite, Instagram page or Facebook Group
