How does the Mini-ALTO deal with drama?

How does the Mini-ALTO deal with drama?

 1. Interchangeable clips to fit 8-28mm microphones and Sennheiser MKH50
 2. Extra hoops are included in kits to customise the level of isolation needed
 3. Magnetic pods make it easy to go from inside to outside in seconds
 4. 'Smiley Face' Adaptor allows your current RAD Mount to become a windshield kit
 • They’re so efficient in light wind that we’ve been able to avoid using windfurs entirely, keeping high frequencies intact—critical for capturing natural vocal presence. Importantly, this also meant I could stick with our usual 60Hz low-end cut at the mic preamp. No need to push it to 80Hz, thanks to how well the Radius handles wind. More lows, more highs—marginal gains that add up in the mix.5/5 Simon Hayes - Production Sound Mixer
 • I know that the drama set is not what the Mini-Alto was primarily designed for, but with attention to detail, isolation approaching the OSIX is possible. And then to be able to add the Mini-ALTO basket and even the fur in seconds rather than install the mic into a different mount is a game changer.5/5 Tim White - Production Sound Mixer
 • I own a couple of different blimp systems but nothing compares to the flow of the Mini-ALTO. My two primary microphones are the Sennheiser 50 and the Schoeps CMIT. So now I'm able to interchange on my primary boom to whichever microphone I want to use with the same system and it has been beautiful.5/5 Garrett Lee - Sound Mixer & Musician

How We Got Our Start in Sound

In 2023, Simon Davies started Radius Windshields and created a new shock mount design, the RAD-1 Shock Mount, which won the 2024 Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) award for "Excellence in a Production Hardware or Software Audio Product".

Simon began learning about sound recording and windshielding when he was 14 years old, as his mum Vivienne Dyer was one of Rycote Windshields' first employees. Vivienne took on full ownership of Rycote from John Gozzard in 1994 and expanded the small business globally.

Simon joined that business in 1997, after training as a location sound recordists at BBC Wood Norton. He started as a production engineer, then technical director and eventually took over ownership and management of Rycote with his wife Odette (who also ran all manufacturing operations and logistics) until they sold the business in 2018.
